California Inspires!

Expressions of Assisted Living Residents

The art pieces in this show, which depict images and symbols of California, have been lovingly created by residents of Assisted Living communities that are members of the California Assisted Living Association (CALA). Each resident artist represented in this show has a unique life story and interpretation of what California signifies to them. Some of the show’s pieces were created by residents with dementia through innovative art therapy techniques designed to foster the creativity of those with cognitive impairment.

Recognizing the diverse talents and interests of the residents in CALA-member communities, we are delighted to collect this amazing art from some of the communities we serve. We thank the residents who have graciously shared their prized art pieces to be shown in the State Capitol during Assisted Living Week 2013 and archived in our virtual gallery, and we urge our viewers to remember: no matter our age, our lives are enriched by engaging in creative endeavors.
