In 2016, during the CALA Board of Directors strategic planning meeting, workforce was the looming issue that rose to the top of all the discussions. The sheer numbers are daunting—the jobs and team members needed to care for the growing population of residents—not to mention recruitment challenges, the need for a bigger talent pool, and the general lack of awareness of senior living as a career option.
Out of that meeting, CALA committed resources to the issue, including a committee structure to champion workforce development, dedicated staff to promote awareness and partnerships, and now a new section of the CALA website—making it easy for members to access the tools and resources geared toward collectively impacting these critical issues.
