CALA Members Build Relationships with Legislators

This year, CALA members really stepped up and committed to inviting their legislators to visit their communities…and their efforts have paid off. In fact, our members hosted so many legislators and staffers the past few months that we have gathered the stories here as a showcase of the great things that can come from building these important relationships.

Assemblymember Gloria Visits Atria Collwood

In October, residents and staff of Atria Collwood were pleased to meet Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-San Diego). This was his first visit to a RCFE as an elected official. He had a great time meeting new people and talking with those who remembered him from City Council. The Assemblymember and his staff enjoyed homemade salsa from the garden, and there were many laughs shared during the the tour.

Assemblymember Steinroth Visits Linda Valley Senior Living

Just before Halloween, Assemblymember Marc Steinorth (R-Rancho Cucamonga) and Loma Linda Chamber of Commerce President Bill Arnold attended a resident tea party at Linda Valley Villa, the independent living sister community to Linda Valley Senior Living. It was an exciting moment for the residents and a pleasant event that was enjoyed by all in attendance.

Assemblymember Maienschein Visits Belmont Village at Sabre Springs

In early November, Assemblymember Brian Maienschein (R-San Diego) gave a town hall meeting at Belmont Village at Sabre Springs. He discussed upcoming legislation and bills he had co-authored before opening the floor up for questions. Residents enjoyed speaking with him and some of them even knew him. One resident recalled meeting him 20 years ago when he was running for a local seat.

Assemblymember Friedman Staffer Visits The Heights at Burbank

On November 10th, the birthday of the Marine Corps, a representative from Assemblymember Laura Friedman’s (D-Glendale) office, joined other elected officials, residents, and families at the “Salute to Our Veterans” Happy Hour held at The Heights at Burbank. Veterans received Certificates of Recognition from the Assemblymember’s office. It was a fun and emotional event for all.

Thank you to these CALA members, and to all our members who have taken strides to create and build relationships with legislators this year! If you’re interested in getting involved in grassroots advocacy efforts like these, sign up for the 2018 Advocates in Action team today!
