Engage: CALA’s 2017 Spring Conference &Trade Show

Earlier this month, 850-plus members and supporters gathered together to to Engage in learning, networking, and sharing the latest in service and innovation.

We Discovered the Future of the Workplace

Whether we were learning about the challenges and opportunities of diverse staff and communities in Talkin’ Bout My Generation and Solving Workplace Bullying, or getting ready for the future of healthcare tech in Today’s and Tomorrow’s Technologies, today’s intensive sessions gave us a deeper understanding of the ways we can improve our workplace and our teams, both today and tomorrow.

We Explored Leadership and Authentic Engagement

Monday’s keynote speaker, Matt Tenney, gave us practical strategies for improving our capacity for true servant leadership, greater success as a leader, and increased happiness. And during Wednesday’s keynote, Scott Bush guided us in an in-depth exploration of how authentic engagement is a significant component of company culture – from attracting and developing exceptional team members to building connections in support of a quality resident experience, and beyond.

We Took a Deep Dive into Hospitality

Hospitality is all about engaging with your customers, whether they are residents, family members, or partners in care, and Tuesday and Wednesday’s sessions reflected the importance of hospitality in the field. From sessions on relationships as an integral part of sales to those examining the importance of interior design and dining, the focus was on creating an optimal hospitality experience.

We Welcomed Student Leaders

We were so excited to have 16 recipients of CALA’s student scholarship joining us at the Conference & Trade Show. These student leaders, representing universities across California and the west coast, were able to take advantage of the many educational and networking opportunities offered and learn more about Assisted Living as an exciting career option.

We Built Relationships and Networks

Whether we were networking with colleagues and exhibitors at the Wine Tasting and Trade Show Lunch, building connections during the educational sessions, or saying “cheers” at Tuesday night’s cocktail party, we seized every opportunity to grow and strengthen our community of dedicated, caring Assisted Living professionals, and carry this aspirational spirit back to our communities and our residents.

Many thanks to our conference and event sponsors, speakers, exhibitors, volunteers, CALA associate members, and the CALA Education Committee for their contributions to a great event!
