Aspire: CALA’s 2016 Fall Conference & Trade Show

This October, a record-breaking 850-plus members and supporters gathered together to Aspire to greatness—in professionalism, innovation, service, and care.

We Took a Deep Dive into Quality of Life

Whether we were learning about the needs of today’s residents in Resident and Family Insights on Quality of Life & Satisfaction, getting ready for the future in Demystifing Successful Aging – Anticipating Next Generation Expectations, or getting our boogie shoes on for The Transformative Power of Music Engagement, today’s intensive sessions gave us a deeper understanding of the ways we can provide a quality resident experience, both today and tomorrow.

We Learned How to Rewrite and Re-View Our Future

What do we want our future to look like…and how can we celebrate ourselves at every age? During Monday’s keynote session, Rewriting the Future, David Logan took us on an interactive exploration of what’s likely to happen in Senior Living and how we can “rewrite the future” to get to what we want. And Wednesday’s keynote speaker Jeff Salz revealed to us his secrets to making the last part of life the best in Into Thin Hair – The Adventure of a Lifetime.

We Optimized Our Resident Experience

Assisted Living is all about serving the needs of the individual, and many of the concurrent sessions reflected that mission. From sessions on innovative technology and fall prevention techniques to those that helped us understand the latest science behind dementia care and end-of-life issues, Tuesday and Wednesday were all about creating an optimal experience for each resident.

We Welcomed Student Leaders

We were so excited to have 19 recipients of CALA’s student scholarship joining us at the Conference & Trade Show. These student leaders, representing universities in northern and southern California as well as Washington state, were able to take advantage of the many educational and networking opportunities offered and learn more about Assisted Living as an exciting career option.

We Built Relationships and Networks

Whether we were networking with colleagues and exhibitors at the Wine Tasting and Trade Show Lunch, building connections during the educational sessions, or gathering together to share food and cameraderie Tuesday night, we seized every opportunity to grow and strengthen our community of dedicated, caring Assisted Living professionals, and carry this aspirational spirit back to our communities and our residents.

Many thanks to our conference and event sponsors, speakers, exhibitors, volunteers, CALA associate members, and the CALA Education Committee for their contributions to a great event!
