“Life is Beautiful” at the ALFA Senior Living Art Showcase

Here at CALA, we believe that, no matter our age, our lives are enriched by engaging in creative endeavors. That is why we hosted the California Inspires! resident art show at the State Capitol in 2013, and why we feature the art and creative writing of residents and employees of Assisted Living in The Creative View, a special section of CALA’s magazine, News & Views.

The Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) also values the creative contributions of seniors. That’s why ALFA, in partnership with Sargent Art, has announced the 4th Annual 2015 ALFA and Sargent Art Senior Living Art Showcase, a competition recognizing the tremendous talent of senior living residents and the powerful resident activity programs at senior living communities across the country.

According to a press release:

We encourage resident activity directors and executive directors to unite residents in a creative group project to demonstrate the community environment at their senior living residences. Residents and groups of residents may submit digital photographs of their artwork to the showcase through April 15, 2015 by completing an entry form on the 2015 ALFA and Sargent Art Senior Living Art Showcase official website.
“Art is a robust, enriching experience enhancing residents’ lives,” says Sargent Art Program Manager Bhakti Oza. “We are so pleased to contribute to community programs encouraging artistic exploration.”
While all artwork will be showcased online, up to 30 finalists will be posted to Sargent Art’s Facebook page where artists, their families and friends, as well as the general public can “like” their work. These “likes” will count as votes. The top six works of art best interpreting the 2015 theme “Life is Beautiful” will be selected as Fan Favorite winners. Those six finalists will win art parties and art supplies for their community, generously donated by multi-year showcase sponsor, Sargent Art.
“Our members are committed to providing an engaging experience to residents, their families and staff,” says ALFA President & CEO James Balda. “The art showcase exemplifies the transformative power of art and its ability to encourage collaboration, empower residents and foster creativity.”

  1. Finding the right facility for your parents is one of your most important jobs as adult descendants. Make sure that you find a facility that can handle your parents’ activity level and type of interest. The last thing that you would want to do is find a home for them that they don’t absolutely enjoy.
