A Taste of the CALA Fall Conference & Trade Show

Wine, cheese, ice cream…sometimes the options can be overwhelming, and it helps to have a few small tastings to figure out what you enjoy. The CALA Conference & Trade Show is similar: enriching, fulfilling, and offering a variety of tasty session choices and special events. This week, more than 600 attendees gathered at the Westin Mission Hills in Rancho Mirage for CALA’s 2013 Fall Conference & Trade Show to share the latest in senior housing and care. For those of you who were unable to attend, here’s a sampling…a small taste of the many thought-provoking and exciting moments at this year’s event.

A Taste of the CALA Fall Conference & Trade ShowPreparing for What’s Ahead

That was the theme of Monday’s three intensive sessions. Whether attendees were learning about new communication techniques for a changing resident demographic, ways to craft messaging to reach new audiences, or what the implementation of the Accountable Care Act will mean for providers, they left with tools and strategies for Assisted Living’s future.

The Mathematics of Innovation

What do you get when you add together diversity and inclusion? According to Joe Gerstandt, Monday’s keynote speaker, you get innovation, one of the keys to the success of an organization. Attendees were inspired by Joe’s message of the importance of innovative expression and cognitive diversity.

21 Flavors of Education

The 21 concurrent sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday offered something for everyone, from dementia care and activities to the latest on the Accountable Care Act. Attendees who were interested in marketing, leadership, or legal issues had plenty to choose from as well.

Big Winners

That’s what attendees felt like at the Trade Show luncheon on Tuesday…they enjoyed a delectable lunch, visited with exhibitors, and learned about the newest products and services. And a few lucky folks even won some raffle prizes.

Food, Fun, and Friends at the Sunset BBQ

It was a beautiful desert evening when over 100 attendees joined CALA on the Master’s Plaza for the Sunset BBQ. Event-goers enjoyed the relaxing view, delicious barbeque fare, and a cocktail or two…many even enjoyed a round of air hockey or ping pong.

Thank you to all who joined us in Rancho Mirage!

CALA members and supporters have just spent three days exploring The Next Chapter of Assisted Living. Taking time from day-to-day responsibilities to attend the conference demonstrates your commitment to yourself, your company, and your residents. By gathering together to share ideas and learn from one another, CALA members return home with new tools and strategies to usher in the next chapter of Assisted Living in California.
