Have you ever heard the phrase, “Think Global, Act Local”? Well, that took on new meaning when a delegation from China visited Sunrise Assisted Living of Sacramento last month.
The delegation was led by the Honorable Fu Ziying, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province. The Vice Governor is responsible for civil affairs, including elderly care, and personally requested a meeting with elder care leaders in the Sacramento area. Shannon Shellenberg, Deputy Director of the Senate Office of International Relations, and Sally Michael, CALA President, were also in attendance.
The tour was led by Executive Director Corrine Shell and Kathleen McCarron, Sunrise’s Regional Director of Operations; it was followed by a discussion about long-term care and Assisted Living. Sally Michael said, “The delegation seemed most interested in how care was provided and the level of caregiver training. And they had lots of questions about the financial side of the business. They were fascinated to learn that, for the most part, residents paid for their care themselves.”
“It was an enjoyable day,” Michael added, “and we were thrilled to work with the Senate Office of International Relations to make it happen.” Thank you to Kathleen McCarron and Corrine Shell of Sunrise Senior Living for hosting the tour!
